About the Team
FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Team 7266, the Dragonettes, is on its third year. We are an all girls high school team from Glenelg Country School (GCS) in Ellicott City, Maryland. After our founders becoming interested in robotics at Cyber Discovery camp at Baltimore University, they decided to involve themselves in the robotics community at GCS. Men hold a predominant role in the Engineering field, and we wish to change that by creating an all girls team. This team focuses on encouraging girls to learn about STEM in addition to reaching out to younger girls that have an interest in Robotics.
One of our team’s main goals is spreading STEM and robotics to those in our communities and beyond. We focus our outreach heavily on young children and hold many events in our Lower School. Some of our outreach events include the STEM program for elementary children, participating in MESS (Math, Engineering, Science Showcase) night at our primary school, running a Robotineering Night in our lower school, mentoring a First Lego League team. We also had a small group of our team travel to Thailand last summer to teach students engineering and robotics through a series of games and challenges.
Currently there are four teams at our school. Us the Dragonettes (7266), our brother team, the Gear Grinders (7265), Dragon Slayers (607), and Drachen Fire (9802), a team founded by former members of the Dragonettes.
